Binus University has a lot of Student Associations and Organizations for students to hone their soft skills. In the previous post about GO (General Orientation) I have listed all the UKMs (Student Activity Units) and I decided to join 3 of them-BASIC, BNEC, BSLC. Besides UKMs, there are also HMJs or Himpunan Mahasiswa Jurusan (Student Association). HMJs are different for every faculties, and I happened to be a passive member HIMTI (Himpunan Mahasiswa Teknik Informatika) just by being a Computer Science student.
I haven’t participate that much in the UKMs that I chose because a lot of them have not even started yet. I have only attended BASIC’s welcome party which was on the 4th of September 2016. BASIC stand for Bina Nusantara Swimming Club and was established in 1998. BASIC aims to be the organization that encourage students to develop good swimming skills.
“Knowledge is a priority, Friendship is a part of life, Swimming is a BASIC of healthy”
– BASIC tagline
BASIC’s achievements:
- 2nd Place in National Swimming Championship among college students in Padang
- 3rd Place in POMDA (ITB) National Swimming Championship in Bandung
- 4th Place in KRAPTSI (UNJ) National Swimming Championship in Jakarta
BASIC has routine swimming practice twice a week. Other than that, there are other activities such as Vacation BASIC (recreational event), social services / blood donations, gathering, PAB (New Members Training), snorkeling, rafting, visiting water parks, etc.
Besides BASIC, I recently did BNEC’s TOEFL Placement Test. BNEC stand for Bina Nusantara English Club and one of the reasons I decided to join was because BNEC had achieved the title Best Student Organization in BINUS for 4 times. Also, this organization holds the title from Guinness World Records for “most people doing crossword simultaneously”. BNEC has 4 classes which are TOEFL, Debate, Scrabble, and Public Speaking & Performance. Out of those four, I am interested to join TOEFL and Debate class.
